Staff

Alison Holland, Site Manager.
Alison was appointed camp manager in April 2008 and moved into the cottage with her husband Martin, having previously worked at the Bible College of Wales in Swansea. Married for over 26 years, they have three grown up sons and a greyhound called Dexter, who's actually beige. Alison is a trained teacher and has also worked in global logistics for nine of the last twelve years.

Bryony Hoult, Staff Volunteer.
Bryony was born in Kent; she lived and taught English in Devon before spending time at The International House of Prayer in Kansas City. This was followed by two years in the remote Indian Himalayan region teaching English, serving and praying for the local people.

Chris Holland, Maintenance Extraordinaire/The Sheriff.
Chris is employed as a maintenance worker, but ends up doing anything he is told to. He loves football, and has recently started playing for a local church side. He also loves chicken fillet burgers so much he would be willing to do almost anything for them, apart from strimming, obviously.

Jan Cottle, Housekeeper.

Jess Rae, Environmental Ranger.Resident nature lover, born and bred in Aotearoa NZ, she left home for a wee explore of the north a while ago. Self described cookie monster and coffee connoisseur (apparently makes a mean iced espresso). Jess loves the arts and dabbles in painting, photography and glasswork.  She calls herself stereotypical Kiwi, and likes little league and a lot of rugby and is always keen on ‘outdoorsy or fighty’ sports - meaning, she loves mountain biking, hiking, free diving  and kickboxing. Her current fascination is Kendo; inspired mostly by her favourite historical figure of the moment: Miyamoto Musashi, the legendary Samurai and master of the long sword. Music? Jess' favourite band is Fat Freddy’s Drop, NZ South Pacific dub, but her musical taste is eclectic at best. A mix of alternate/indie rock, Spanish guitar & flamenco, reggae, house, 80’s electronica, and a little opera thrown in. It all depends on the mood and moment, she says. Her favourite movie genre is epitomised by Donnie Darko – 'because Frank told me to'.  On the serious side - Jess is trained in Earth Sciences and Engineering Geology, with interests in conservation science and resource management. Her mix of interests and skills reflect on both her work and travels: She's never content to just visit a place but prefer to stop, appreciate both environment and culture and get her hands into earthy work along the way. She'll be at camp for a while yet, delving into various environmental projects and plans, and of course, hunting down elusive tasty home baked treats. Also, if asked to write a short paragraph about herself Jess will invariably write more than everyone else put together.

Lloyd James, Environmental Officer.
Lloyd began working at the St Madoc Centre under the Future Jobs Funds Scheme and calls himself the 'Site's main man/village idiot'! He lives in Pontarddulais, known colloquially as 'the Bont'. His main pass times are exercising at the gym and fishing (although, it should be stressed, not at the same time), he is also a very dedicate father to his pet ferrets, Jill and Bill, who he loves very much. He enjoys playing and watching football and supports Manchester United. He has been known, on occasion, to play in goal for the St Madoc 5 aside team, which is quite nice of him, really.

Martin Holland, Volunteer Recruitment Consultant.
I am 49; I know it's hard to believe, but only four months to the big 50! I love being a Christian, eating chocolate, being married to my wife, football, living in Gower and our kids and grandson; but not necessarily in that order! I have spent most of the past twenty years selling soft drinks to supermarkets; you would have thought that they would have had enough by now! I am currently studying for an MA in missional leadership (no idea what it means) and hope to finish next year.

Mike Morris, Caretaker.
Nathan Holland, Office Ranger.
Nathan is usually found in the office working on publicity material or the website during the quieter months. During the spring and summer school terms Nathan is more often found outside working (playing) with the school groups staying on site. Nathan lives in Llanrhidian with his two year old son, Joshua (who has a cracking left foot) and his wife, Charlotte (who doesn't). He supports the Nottingham Forest and eats lots of biscuits.

Rob Hooker, The Educator.
Rob was born in Kent and moved to Wales at a young age, he grew up in the Amman Valley and now resides in Upper Brynamman, known as the “Gateway to the Black Mountains”, apparently. He loves working outside, although sometimes it's hardly work is it - school season, woohoo! He's not so fond of the office and its technology, or it's lack of, and is often found in the office shouting at a blank computer screen. He enjoys a bit of footy, but unfortunately supports the Gunners. He drinks a lot of caffeine, in any form he can find it in.
